Most of the plantings have been in the ground over two years now.
The arbor and it’s Wisteria’s blossomed this year. They are taking over the arbor nicely and as time goes on will only look better and better.
To the East of the main entrance (right side in this image) we started a little private picnic area. Between this circular area and the street are Ninebarks, vareigated Dogwoods, Buddleia, a European Hornbeam, and a few other plants — as well as a variety of flowers.
This shot of the West side of the building shows the 2 yr old asphalt parking lot, and a small part of our private park — Green space opened up to enjoy and our way of letting some of the water runoff nourish the land and our spirit instead of just running off the lot into the sewer.

My wife and I bought this wonderful home about 5 years ago. At the time we intended to stay a good long time. But life throws you curves, and sometimes you’re lucky enough to catch them. That’s what we have done.
It will be hard to leave this wonderful old building. Located right next to the J.E. Jones elementary school we are delighted with the sounds of children during the school year. For anyone who loves kids there can be nothing better than this. The playground sees year round use so the distant sounds of laughter and kids playing are a year round delight.
It’ hard to conceive of a building where we have ever slept better. Being all brick, and with several masonry walls between our residence and the street we hear little street noise. The residence rooms on the upper floor face the quiet North side.
Designed for access by kids, the stairs are wide and substantial. Even in our sixties we find no difficulty navigating them.
But, we hear the call adventure and while we are still able we want to see more of this country. Once the house is sold we’ll do just that. It will be hard after being Milwaukee Area residents for the last 35 yrs — we love this part of the country. But after 33 yrs with one firm it’s time for my wife to hang up the noise and frustration of an office and for the both of us to enjoy the time we have left.

It took us a few years to figure out what to do with landscaping here. The building is so symmetrical and the property sizable enough that normally scaled yard ideas didn’t seem appropriate.
We’ve added a private outdoor picnic area / conference room in the front yard by planting shrubs in a circle around the table and chairs.
Gradually the shrubbery is filling in — by next year you won’t even be able to see the table or chairs unless the umbrella is up.
And our wisterias around the arbor are growing like crazy. I took this in May or June, just after they came to live this Spring. They are bushier yet now.

Who doesn’t like a posh bathroom?
And if you are my size (we wont go into just HOW large, that is) you probably long for a shower where you can just luxuriate in the water. Well, try this one on for size.
